Every plugin AI Plugin Generator builds has a web address, the URL you paste into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Meta AI. It's also what users see during sign-in, and it's the address directory reviewers verify when you publish.
You can choose where that address lives: on our domain, on a subdomain of yours, or on your website itself. All three run the same plugin, with the same tools, security and speed. What changes is how it looks to people and how much setup it takes.
The three options at a glance
| Our domain | Your subdomain | Your site itself | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Example address | your-store.aiplugingenerator.com/mcp | mcp.yourstore.com/mcp | yourstore.com/mcp |
| Setup | None | One DNS record | Install a small WordPress plugin |
| Time | Instant | Minutes (DNS + certificate) | About two minutes |
| Certificate | Automatic | Automatic | Your site's own |
| Brand in the address | Ours | Yours | Yours |
| Best for | Private use, testing | Public listings, most stores | Owners who want one address |
You can switch between them at any time from your plugin's Settings. The plugin keeps working while you set up the new address, and you only press Save and rebuild once the new address checks out.
Option 1: Our domain
When you generate a plugin, it's live straight away at an address like your-store.aiplugingenerator.com/mcp. There's nothing to configure.
Choose this if the plugin is for you and your team, or you're trying things out. People connecting it are already people you know, so the address doesn't need to carry your brand.
It's also fine for directory listings. Domain verification works on this address too. It just reads as our domain rather than yours.
Option 2: Your own subdomain
Your plugin runs at mcp.yourstore.com, on a subdomain of your own domain. Visitors and reviewers see your name in the address, and sign-in pages appear on your domain.
How it works
You add one DNS record that points mcp.yourstore.com at our servers. We detect it, register the hostname, and issue a security certificate for it automatically. Requests to your subdomain then reach your plugin.
Setup
- In your plugin's Settings, choose Your subdomain. A setup window shows the exact record to add.
- In your DNS provider (your domain registrar, cPanel, Cloudflare or wherever your DNS lives), add a CNAME record:
- Name:
mcp - Target:
customers.aiplugingenerator.com
- Name:
- Back in the setup window, click Check. It looks for your DNS record, then waits for the certificate. This usually takes a few minutes; DNS changes can occasionally take longer to spread.
- When both checks pass and the plugin answers on the new address, Save and rebuild unlocks. Click it.
That's it. Your plugin now uses mcp.yourstore.com, and you can update the address in your AI apps.
Choose this if you plan to publish in ChatGPT's or Claude's directory, or customers will connect it. It's the best balance of brand and simplicity, and it doesn't touch your website at all.
Tips
- If your DNS is on Cloudflare, set the record to DNS only (grey cloud) so the certificate can be issued.
- Don't reuse a name that already points somewhere else.
mcpis a safe default because it's rarely in use.
Option 3: Your website itself
Your plugin answers at yourstore.com/mcp, on your existing website address. There's no new subdomain and no DNS change.
How it works
You install a small connector plugin on your WordPress site. It handles only the handful of addresses an AI app needs: /mcp, the sign-in steps, and the verification files directories check. It securely forwards those requests to your AI plugin, and leaves every other page of your site untouched.
Each connector is generated for your plugin specifically and carries its own secret, so it can't be used to reach anyone else's plugin.
Setup
- In your plugin's Settings, choose Your site itself. The setup window offers the connector as a download.
- In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the file, install and Activate.
- Back in the setup window, click Check. We confirm that
yourstore.com/mcpanswers as your plugin. - When the check passes, Save and rebuild unlocks. Click it.
Choose this if you want a single, familiar address and are comfortable installing a WordPress plugin. It also keeps working if you later change DNS providers.
Things to know
- Caching and security plugins sometimes intercept unusual paths. If the check fails, exclude
/mcp,/authorize,/token,/registerand/.well-known/from page caching and firewall rules. - Keep the connector active. If it's deactivated, AI apps connected to
yourstore.com/mcpwill lose access until it's reactivated.
Which should you choose?
A simple rule of thumb:
- Just you and your team? Stay on our domain. No setup, nothing to maintain.
- Publishing, or customers will connect? Use your subdomain. It's clean, branded and independent of your website's plugins.
- Want one address and run WordPress? Use your site itself.
You can start on our domain today and move later. If you've already listed in a directory, plan the move before submitting, since a new address usually means verifying the domain again.
What stays the same, whichever you choose
- Security: OAuth sign-in, one-time connection codes, only the tools you chose, previews before changes, and an activity log.
- Performance: your plugin runs on the same global network either way.
- Price: custom addresses are included in the $20/month plan for up to 5 sites.

Frequently asked questions
Will changing the address break my existing connections?
AI apps connected to the old address need to be reconnected to the new one. Directory listings may need the new domain verified. Plan the switch before you publish.
Do I need to buy a certificate?
No. For your subdomain we issue and renew the certificate automatically. On your site itself, your existing certificate is used.
Does the connector plugin slow down my website?
No. It only acts on the few addresses an AI app uses and returns immediately for every other request.
Can I use a different subdomain than mcp?
The setup uses mcp by default because it's rarely taken. If you need something different, contact us.
